The 2019 Unisys Security Index — which surveyed more than 13,000 respondents across 13 countries spanning Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas — indicates that identity theft and bank fraud are a few of the more pressing security concerns faced by consumers globally.

The Unisys Security Index is a measure of the current threat landscape in the world. Basically, it provides a better understanding of consumers’ concerns pertaining to financial, national, internet and personal security. This year, overall consumer security concerns are at their highest since the inception of the Index back in 2017.

The key findings of the latest Unisys Security Index include the following:

  • 69% of respondents saw identity theft as a looming threat, ranking it ahead of physical risks like natural disasters, war and terrorism.
  • 66% of respondents were seriously concerned about bank card fraud, with 57% reporting fears of hacking and malware when conducting e-commerce transactions.​
  • 57% of respondents feared that their private data being accessed via public Wi-Fi networks at public events.
